Our staff is dedicated to promoting the mission of the Saint Aloysius Church and Community Center. Through action and teamwork they help provide the community with the services needed to enjoy a happy, and healthy life.
Brother Al Mascia OFM
Outreach Coordinator
Brother Al is a Franciscan Friar from the Province of Saint John the Baptist headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has recently moved to Detroit from Cincinnati where he was involved in establishing the first Canticle Cafe. He hails from The Bronx, New York and enjoys music, reading, yoga and thinking outside the box!
. Right now Brother Al's job is to promote the outreach ministries of St. Aloysius Church and Community Center including the Canticle Cafe - Detroit.
Mike Carsten SFO
Outreach Director
As Director Mike oversees the day to day activities of the Center. He meets and greets our many guests and visitors. Mike is a Secular Franciscan belonging to Saint Joseph Fraternity in Burton, MI within Devine Mercy Region. He Personally taste tests each and every pot of coffee and batch of cinnammon rolls in our bakery!(And is quickly putting on the pounds!)
Michael Thomas
Case Worker
A long standing employee of over 11 years, Michael is dedicated to helping our guests better themselves. As the center's case worker he works tirelessly tracking down vital documents, applying for benefits, housing, ID, treatment or a number of other services needed by our guests. Michael is also a talented artist and musician. The joker of the group, Michael never fails to bring a smile to our faces!
Camilla Lunsford
Volunteer Coordinator
Camilla works with volunteers daily serving coffee, bussing tables, cleaning, distributing clothing and groceries, making PB&J sandiwiches, or whatever else needs doing. She is also the person who schedules volunteer activities.
Camilla is married to husband Dan and has a daughter and 2 grandchildren - Bubba and Fido. (you will have to ask her about the names!)
Andy Yax
Maintenance Director
As the maintenance director, Andy helps keep the facility clean, and everything in good working order. From mopping floors and building maintenance to network and computer administration, he does it all. He also created and maintains this website (and loathes writing in the third person! hehe), so if there is something you would like to see on this site email him HERE.
